It looks like Harry Potter will actually never really leave us.
The world will get a deeper look at the North American wizarding world of Harry Potter on Nov. 18, when “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” hits theaters. And writer J.K. Rowling in London on Thursday said the franchise, which was scheduled to be three films, will instead be five.
That’s five films over the next decade for Warner Bros., the studio that helped the eight “Harry Potter” films gross $7.7 billion at box offices worldwide. Keeping the “Harry Potter” magic alive for at least 10 more years is key to Warner Bros.-parent Time Warner Inc.’s TWX, -0.89% prolonged success, according to Wunderlich analyst Matthew Harrigan.
“We remain upbeat on buy-rated Time Warner, with the latest impetus for our confidence in our above-norm Warner Bros. valuation—near $20 billion and also near 20% of asset value—being the news from London that there will be five ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movies over the next decade,” Harrigan wrote in a note to clients.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” stars Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne opposite Dan Fogler, Katherine Waterston, Colin Farrell and Ezra Miller, to name a few. The film is set in 1920s New York amid tensions between wizards and American muggles, or no-majs. It follows eccentric wizard Newt Scamander, future author of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook in the original “Harry Potter” franchise.
